postheadericon Ferrets are fussy eaters, but by offering them a well-balanced diet they will not only eat well, they will thrive

Ferrets are fussy eaters, but by offering them a well-balanced diet they will not only eat well, they will thrive. Ferrets can develop grave health issues with diets lacking in nutritional value, which has been shown to cause sickness and shortened life expectancies. It’s critical to give foods that will help them remain energetic and healthy throughout their lives. As a final reflection, it has always been fascinating to me that a ferret will decline to dine on frozen meat, but then turn right around and eat furnishings or plastic toys.

If you’re on a small budget and searching for a way to save some cash, providing your pet cheap food is normally not the best way to save. Yes, it will be more high-priced getting the high quality brands, but since ferrets consume so little at each meal, your total food expense will still be miniscule.

Ferrets are not very big so they won’t eat a large amount at any one meal, and hence should be offered two or three smaller meals every day as an alternative to one big one. Even though they nap as much as 20 hours each day, they are extraordinarily active creatures while awake and will certainly burn a sizeable amount of calories during the course of their active periods. Due to this fact they need to be offered a high calorie diet if you would like them to remain active and healthy.

You can provide your ferret a dry or a moist food. Moist may be prized a little more, but dry has lots of advantages. You cannot leave moist food in their cage for more than 60 minutes, due to the fact that it will not remain good for any longer than this. When it gets too old it ought to be removed from the cage and disposed of. Conversely, you don’t have this concern with dry pellets due to the fact that it will stay good for days. This will probably reduce the cost of food, because the dry food will not need to be thrown out. Another advantage to dry pellets is that they can help keep a ferret’s teeth clean.

Ferrets will derive enjoyment from a tasty treat now and then, but it’s essential not to overdue it. Seeing as they will usually eat a minute amount at a time, they can fill up on snacks quickly and then reject their high quality meal. This can in due course lead to nutritional deficiencies that can cause illness and a loss of vibrancy.

Yummy snacks are never essential, but if you decide you want to provide tasty treats, be certain you do it in moderation. The ideal snacks are high protein foods like cooked eggs and meat. Foods like candy and fruits that are high in carbohydrates don’t make first-class nutritional snacks. These can often lead to health issues and a decrease of vigor.

As far as overall healthiness is concerned, a ferret requires meals that are low in carbohydrates while being high in fat and protein. Providing foods that are lacking in nutritional content can result in considerable health problems and a decreased life expectancy. If you love your ferret, demonstrate you care by providing a high quality nutritious diet.

postheadericon For most pet owners, pets hold a special place in the household

For most pet owners, pets hold a special place in the household. They are much more than merely animals that live with the family; they are actual members the family. So where their well-being is concerned, we should be very aware of what elements in or around the home either are or could become threats to them.

When considering your pets’safety, you should bear in mind that pets have absolutely no notion of danger and care should be taken so as to prevent a fun moment from becoming a nightmare. Though potential dangers could be many, here are some of the most common.

Electrocution

One of the biggest dangers for many pets are electrical cords. They are attracted to them and are often tempted to chew on them. A good solution to this is CritterCord™ ,which is a cord cover that acts as protective tubing and is infused with a citrus scent. It is specifically designed to help protect your pets from the dangers of chewing on electrical cords.

Poisoning

Poisonous household plants like the azalea, dieffenbachia (dumb cane), lilies, mistletoe, and philodendron, among others, are extremely dangerous to pets. Insect control products, such as insecticides should also be carefully considered. Also, human medications can be toxic to animals. Keep medication containers and tubes of ointments and creams away from pets who could chew through them, and be vigilant about finding and disposing of any dropped pills.

Pets can develop allergies, the same way a human being can, so beware of spiders, scorpions, bees, and other insects.

Choking

Toys with removable parts—like squeaky toys or stuffed animals with plastic eyes—can pose a choking hazard to animals. Take the same precautions with pets as you would with a small child. Also, plastic bags must be considered potentially hazardous. Leashes must be removed if the dog is not being walked, since there is always danger of strangulation. Rawhide doggie chews should be offered to a pet only with supervision, as they can pose a choking hazard as well. They may also be contaminated with Salmonella, which can infect pets and humans who come in contact with them.

You should also be equally cautious outside the home.

  • Swimming pools must be monitored carefully. An Above-Ground Pool Eye Alarm is great for this. This easy-to-install safety system alerts you with a loud siren if your pet or child accidentally falls into the pool.
  • Cars, too. Leaving your pet inside your car is not always a good idea. A HotDog can come in handy here. The Hotdog detects and reacts to deadly temperature changes within your vehicle. Also BreezeGuard™ Screens are a great solution to let your dog enjoy the fresh air keeping safety in mind. They are mobile pet window extensions custom made to your vehicle.

postheadericon For some these two notions might seem too far apart to present any similarities

For some these two notions might seem too far apart to present any similarities. But still, more than we know, dogs as object of our love or repulsion, affect our lifestyle.

Each and every one of us has gone through at least one experience that included a dog. Whether sad or fortunate, these experiences exist and cannot be ignored. As every other marking moment emotions triggered by a dog at some point influent our ways from that moment on.

Just for fun I want to show you what I mean by giving a rather unknown example to prove my point.

Let’s say you are over 30 and tried already every diet in the world to loose a few ponds. And naturally, nothing worked. Well, one evening, rainy evening of course, you come across a little fluffy puppy abandoned just next to the garbage can in front of your house. You don’t necessarily like dogs, but this one seems different and so alone, maybe even a little sick, that you feel pity (you think) for him and take him in…just for the night. And then you keep him another night, and another one till he officially becomes your pet – you can’t deny it anymore. You walk him every day at fixed hours and, although you forgot all about your weight problem being too busy petting the little pet, you amazingly reached undreamed results in that particular problem. Surprised?

You shouldn’t be, it’s known (by some at least) that regular daily 10 – 15 minutes walks are the best diet of all. Try them on your own and you might get bored and give up. But with a dog, the walks are a must, they have to be done, you can’t miss any of them.

So, the little innocent dog not only made you a better person since you let him into your house (and heart), but also solved the problem you had that all your determination and lost money on diet products couldn’t solve.

If I wasn’t convincing enough, just try it. Get a dog. And miraculously you will be a different person.

postheadericon Most dogs live indoors now and a dogs potty training is necessary

Most dogs live indoors now and a dogs potty training is necessary.  This training can occur at any age, but the amount of time that it might take varies with the age of the puppy or dog.  For example, a puppy that you acquire at six weeks old could take a number of weeks to housebreak, one that is three months old should take less time and one that is six months old might learn in just a few days.  Whatever age your puppy/dog is, don’t forget that it is the owner’s duty to teach not to condemn.  A failure in a dogs potty training is most likely the owner’s fault.

It is best for one person in the household to be responsible for the dogs potty training because people could get confused as to whose job it is at what time.  This is not a spare time job, you must monitor the puppy/dog continually.  Prevention is the best cure when tackling your dogs potty training.  Observe effectively and note an anticipative look or running to the door and scratching at it.  This might be the time to take the dog/puppy outside.

To assist with the process of your dogs potty training, feed him/her on a fixed timetable and note what his or her habits are.  They most likely have a bowel movement soon after eating.  A significant fact to recall is that a puppy’s memory is about 30 seconds long, conseqently, if you are going to discipline him you must be fast.  Once again, prevention is a significant tool.  When you have to leave the dog alone or when you go to bed at night, the dog should be constrained to a small area that is covered in newspaper.  You can also “paper train”  by utilizing newspapers indoors.

When your dog/puppy urinates or messes on the floor or carpeting, wipe it up quickly and remove the cloth with the odor on it (take it out side).  When on a carpeting, clean the area with soap and water and then club soda (or with one of the specialty products formulated for this job).  There are some dogs who never seem to be potty trained, however, some of these may be because of training issues. It is possible, however, that there might be medical issues, conseqently, it might be beneficial to have your vet examine the dog.

Essentially you should feed your dog/puppy on a regular timetable, walk him/her consistently, observe effectively for indications that he/she has to go, wipe up messes and urine efficiently and correct the dog promptly.

postheadericon Many times it is hard to decide whether to get freshwater aquarium plants or to go with fake plants

Many times it is hard to decide whether to get freshwater aquarium plants or to go with fake plants. It is the same sort of decision you also have to make for your home. Do you want real, live houseplants or artificial plants? Certainly live plants create a more natural environment, and for fish this translates into being more comfortable in their surroundings. Both live and fake plants provide places for fish to hide, which keeps aggressive fish from bullying smaller fish.

Fake or live plants?

The big advantage of fake plants is that they require absolutely no care whatsoever, but in an aquarium they do get covered with algae and need to be consistently cleaned. Even those big algae-eating bottom dwellers don’t like to clean off fake plants. Live freshwater aquarium plants not only look more natural, they help you to keep your fish healthier. They deliver oxygen to the water and take in nitrates, which fish expel. There are also many fish who like to eat plants and unless you have some aggressive plant-eaters, you will only notice some nibbled edges now and then. Stay away from Silver Dollars, as they can destroy an entire underwater garden in a day.

Live plant selection

While live plants require more care and may need some specific lighting changes to grow well, if you get just the right plants they will provide a completely natural habitat for your fish. There are many different types of freshwater aquarium plants and all have different characteristics. For instance, floating plants, as you probably guessed, float on the top of the tank. Rhizomes are horizontal plants and they have roots which act like a runner across the bottom of your tank’s substrate. They have leaves on top but grow horizontally. If you have a small tank they can fill it up pretty fast.

A good example of a floating plant is the floating fern. These plants will thrive with hardly any effort at all on your part. You will need to trim them just like you would prune outside plants. If you don’t they will cover the entire top of the tank and leave you no open water at all. If you are conscientious about trimming, however, they make a nice looking plant for fish to hide underneath. Plants with rhizomes can include anubias, which are good for beginners because they are pretty much indestructible. They don’t need a lot of carbon dioxide like some other plants and a plectostomus can keep them clean of algae.

Java Moss is a very popular aquarium plant. It can grow on the bottom of the tank, or it can attach itself to rocks, driftwood, or other structures. The great thing about java moss is that it doesn’t require special lighting like many other freshwater aquarium plants. And, some fish will lay their eggs in the moss, and this is an especially good characteristic if you want to have more fish.

A few other hardy plants you will want to check out are Cryptocoryne or crypts. They grow slowly and further down in the tank where the lighting is not good for many other kinds of plants. One of the most colorful is the cryptocoryne beckettii, which has the unusual ability to grow underwater and on land. The Amazon sword is one of the most popular freshwater aquarium plants, and it really depends on what you have for fish whether this plant is a success or a failure. It needs lots of light, fertilizer and carbon dioxide to do well.

No matter what you end up choosing for freshwater aquarium plants, the chances are you will be happy with the looks of the habitat they create. The amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen in your water will determine which ones do well and which ones do not. Just make any necessary adjustments and remember to trim the plants so that you don’t end up with an underwater jungle.
